Like many caves in Halong Bay, Sung Sot Cave has a famous legend. Local people connect the cave with Thanh Giong, a legendary Vietnamese hero.According to folklore, Thanh Giong flew to heaven after defeating foreign invaders. Inside the cave, many stalactites resemble his giant horse and sword. Locals believe he left them to protect the land from evil spirits.

You can also see small ponds inside the cave. People say these ponds mark the footprints of Thanh Giong’s horse.
